The new gaming room, which features a bar, tea, coffee and snacks, has moved to an intimate downstairs setting adjoining the restaurant, with easy access via the carpark.

Hotel Manager Simon Rayner said the re-opening of The Royal marked a major milestone for Nundah as a developing culinary destination.
“The Royal has brought something really unique to the area by offering great Italian food in a much-loved Aussie pub,” Mr Rayner said.
“The setting has a really comfortable, casual feel, and the menu has all your old family favourites.

“It’s really a case of grabbing a chair, ordering a beer and digging into some honest, affordable Italian.”

The Royal has customer parking available at the rear of the hotel, as well as street parking, and is in close proximity to Nundah train station and bus stops, near the Toombul Shopping Centre terminal.

The Royal is currently trading all day, with the kitchen open from 12 – 9pm for lunch and dinner.

Life is happy for Jade MacCallum, owner of SassiCoco Boutique. “It’s impossible not to smile when you’re working among beautiful clothing every day,” she said.

The boutique, located in the Toombul Shopping Centre, is named after her daughters, Sassi & Coco (nicknames that stuck), and is home to an eclectic range of pieces.

Jade feels that the range reflects her own personal style – which changes with her mood. “one day I feel Boho and the next, Biker Chic. There is definitely something here for everyone.”

Having worked in the industry since she was fifteen, Jade knows fashion. She stocks on-trend pieces that are unique. Jade says that when you shop at a boutique like SassiCoco, you are guaranteed items that haven’t saturated the market.

The store’s motto: ‘My Favourite Shop’ evolved from the overwhelming response of customers who enjoyed their experience. Jade says “We want people to browse and not feel pressured here.” She knows the impact a great outfit can have. “You feel amazing.

You feel good about yourself. There is a spring in your step. I love bringing people through that experience. It’s nice to put a smile on people’s faces.”

Why are locals are loving Nundah’s newest café? Despite only being open since October, café startup The Power Station Co at Circa has quickly developed a reputation for outstanding coffee and customer service.

Based at Go Health Club, as the café’s name suggests The Power Station Co’s mantra is all about refueling and recharging according to co-owner and head barista Danny Canfyn.
“Whether you’ve just finished a workout or you’re grinding through a day at work, a great coffee and fresh, healthy food offers a much needed pick-me-up,” Danny said.
Using Mocopan coffee and Maleny Dairies milk was the only choice for Danny, who refuses to compromise on quality.

“Mocopan coffee’s not that well known in Brisbane, but once people taste it, they love it. We have a house blend for milk-based coffees and a single origin from Ethiopia for all non-milk coffees”, Danny said.
“Maleny Diaries milk produces a far superior coffee, no question about it. We also have lactose-free and almond milk for those with special dietary needs.” The Power Station Co offers a range of ready-to-go gourmet sandwiches, wraps and salads, as well as a range of healthy baked goods whipped up by Danny’s wife and co-owner, Rhiannan. Paleo, low fat, high protein, nut free, gluten free, dairy free, refined sugar free: there’s a constantly evolving selection of guilt-free treats to suit everyone.

Perhaps the biggest bonus of all is that everything this cafe offers is underpinned with good old fashioned customer service. The kind of service that happens naturally, by people who are genuinely interested in getting to know you. How many names and orders has Danny memorised in the last few months? “About 150”. The rollout of fresh smoothies, juices and shakes in the coming months will simply add more reasons to love Nundah’s The Power Station Co.

Master pastry chef Wolfgang Kelke is the ‘King of Cakes’ himself, enticing locals with an exquisite cake cabinet and danish display. With two successful stores already open on the southside, Mr Kelke decided that Nundah was next on his list of suburbs to introduce to his “home away from home”.

The idea behind King of Cakes started 24 years ago with the aim of bringing a piece of Germany to Brisbane, driven by the enthusiasm of customers in the area. “The customers from the northside asked ‘why haven’t you got anything over here?’” Mr Kelke said.

“Finally we are where we wanted to be for a long time, in Nundah.” Mr Kelke said that it was a great opportunity to bring the café to Nundah, which has a German Lutheran settlement background.

Nundah King of Cakes is the first store that will be franchised; creating a great opportunity for pastry enthusiasts to “become a part of the King of Cakes family.”

Although King of Cakes is currently showcasing a new range of strudels, Mr Kelke said that his personal favourites are the black forest slice and the Esterhazy cake. King of Cakes will soon be inviting customers to join the Royal Cake Club, where points collected from purchases can be redeemed on products.
